Almost everyone photographs the huts made from upturned boats when they visit Holy Island. The challenge is to make something different. Generally I'm not a fan of digital effects plugins, but sometimes one of them works, and I rather like the Topaz Studio Swirly Strokes II look. It works well when there is some structure in the original image for it to accentuate and simplify. It's often best to keep images simple, and if you can do that without filters then great, but if not an otherwise slightly too messy shot can work well.
